So the second plane ride wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be even though we had to sit in the middle section towards the back of the plane in the middle of the row. I had changed our seats and actually paid an extra fee to get Ed an aisle seat since he is so tall. But, somehow it was changed and given to someone else. I was not too happy. But, as I said, the plane ride wasn't too bad and was even shorter than we thought.
Then, we raced to our next connection in London only to be slowed down by security when they had to hand checked Ed's bag because he left his IPad in it. They were in no hurry either so we just made it to the gate. Then, a 3 1/2 hour flight to St. Petersburg.
In Russia, we were greeted by Alex ( a female), who helped us exchange our money and took us to our hotel. I have to say, I felt a kind of special having our own guide. Plus, Alex spoke excellent English which took some of our nerves away since she did the communicating. A quick 10minute ride and we were at our hotel, checked in (by Alex), and crashed in our room for about two hours, since we did not really sleep on the plane.
After our power nap, we went to the grocery store and got some snacks and drinks for our 24 hour train ride we will be on tomorrow heading to Kotlas starting at 7am.
We went back to the hotel, dropped our snacks off and headed down for dinner in the restaurant in the hotel. I had some Beef Stroganoff (Yum!), and Ed had some sausage dish with fried potatoes ( also very good). Ed also tried a shot of Vodka. I tried a sip but it was too strong for me.
Now, Ed and I are relaxing in our room and will try to get some sleep before our
5 am wake up call to catch the train.
What a day. But, we are in Russia!
